Greetings from the Principal

Welcome to Nakano Nishi High School. Thank you for visiting our website. Nakano Nishi High School was opened in 1984 with a big local expectation.

Our symbol is the golden eagle, because when the school requested Maruyama Kenji of the Akutagawa Award to write lyrics for the school song, he took the golden eagle as a motif and named it “The Golden Eagle Song”. The lyrics contain a wish for the author to become a strong human being who is proud and independent like the golden eagle. The school song was composed by Fujisawa Mamoru, commonly known as Hisaishi Joe. He is famous for composing many songs in Studio Ghibli films.

In 2015, the school was approved by the United Nations to be a UNESCO school. It was the first UNESCO high school in Nagano Prefecture and became an ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) base school. The goal is to create a sustainable society through various educational events and experiences. This helps to give students new values and different perspective on the world around them. These goals are in line with Nakano Nishi High School's motto: "Creativity, Exploration, and Fraternity". In order to help students reach the goals specified by the motto, Nakano Nishi High School aims to provide opportunities for students to participate in the community and in society.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our school.
